Virus is the most popular infectious program. Term “computer virus” refers to the program code that embeds itself into executable software and is activated as the infected software is running. Virus infects other legitimate software from the already infected one when the latter is running. It may have commercial or non-for-profit nature and may carry a payload.
Virus is also the term used to designate any malicious program code and software. However, some experts have stated that term “virus” shall not be applied in relation to malicious programs without replicating ability like adware and spyware, and even segregate malware from virus stating that only programs that cannot copy themselves shall be classified as malware.  Our website accepts different meanings of term “computer virus” if they do not create difficulties in understanding the sense of the review posted, though encourages applying the term in line with the expert’s understanding of a computer virus as a self-replicable program, owing to that such understanding avoids confusing it with other malicious program codes. However, the definition of malware accepted at this websites is that common definition, according to which malware is any malicious code and software, including virus.
A virus, in contrast to worm, needs to be attached to existing program as that is how it is replicated and cannot be replicated independently. That is, virus definition as of a self-replicated program shall be modified as virus is replicated by the program it infects, though without user’s contest and, evidently, against user’s will.
